Nylon 66 off grade resin and scrap are seeing price increases due to increased demand, and higher feedstock costs due to higher oil prices. WTI oil is currently selling in the $48-$49 / barrel price range, so we are getting pressure from the domestic PA66 producers to get the prices up on all second quality resin and scrap that we are buying. We took a $.05/lb price increase across the board on PA66 in April, and expect to pay another $.03/lb price increase in May. Typically PA66 prime resin only sees price adjustments 1-2 times per year, but if oil continues to increase above the price of $50 / barrel, then the market may see another price increase for prime nylon 66 before the end of the 2nd QTR in 2016.
The 2 largest PA66 producers in North America are seeing strong demand for their prime materials, and both producers are evaluating ways to increase their nylon production capacity. Because of the strong demand for prime 66 pellets the supply of wide specification (off grade) pellets is tight as well. The supply of both prime and off grade pellets will probably stay tight through June and July of this year.
